ROADS AND DRAINAGES

  • A number of roads under formula one have been tarred with drainage works along side
  • Activities are still going on in the area of unblocking drains to prepare for the rain season
  • Flood prone areas are being given a priority in the process of the coming rain season preparations
  • We have stationed culverts for this cause; preparing to make our roads passable even in the event of worst situation flood wise.

EIA / SIA OF THE INNER RING ROAD
Environmental Impact Assessment
In line with the provisions of the Environmental Protection and Pollution Control Act (EPPCA), Cap 204 of the Laws of Zambia, the main objective of the EIA is to examine impacts on ecological units and ecological processes of the project area including impacts on physical, biological, socio-economic and cultural environment and to provide mitigation measures for identified impacts.
? Resettlement Action Plan
The main objective of the RAP is to ensure that the affected families’ livelihoods are restored to former levels or even better through satisfactory implementation of suggested resettlement measures including compensation.
? Tasks for Lusaka City Council
Define the section of the road through a reconnaissance and the map and then define the actual profile of the road
Define the width of the road reserve to give a clear picture of structures affected
The Consultant expected to undertake the following tasks:

  • Reconnaissance (carrying out the actual road alignment)
  • Actual pegging of the road profile
  • Identification of the actual affected structures
  • Valuation of affected fixed assets

Environmental Impact Assessment
The Consultant expected to undertake the following task:

  • A full Environmental Impact Assessment to be submitted to the Environmental Council of Zambia.
  • The scope of the assignment to include, but not necessarily limited to the following:
  • baseline environmental conditions along the proposed alignment
  • impacts on valued ecosystem and biological diversity
  • impacts on socio-economic, socio-cultural and/or archaeological components of the environment
  • impacts on the aesthetic values of the environment
  • impacts on air quality
  • impacts on the land-use
  • impacts on water (surface and ground) and soil
  • Traffic management

Resettlement Action Plan
The Consultant is expected to undertake the following tasks:

  • A census of the Project affected people, an inventory of assets they will lose and value them
  • Consult, inform and promote the participation of the Project Affected People (PAPs) and the public in general concerning the preparation of the RAP and its implementation
  • General stakeholders meeting to sensitize and educate people on the intended road project
  • Meeting with the People Affected by the Project (PAP)
  • Inventory of assets and valuation of the same (Assets and attribute data)
  • Socio-economic Survey
  • Submit a complete RAP to ECZ and LCC
