Lusaka City Council has constituted a task force team to cut down illegal billboards and the billboards whose sites have not been renewed around the city. The Council has noticed that there is an rise in the number of outdoor advertising companies that were either not renewing their sites at the end of the year or placing billboards around the city without permission. All advertising companies which have not renewed their sites for the year 2016 are advised to do so as these billboards were standing illegally and were depriving the Council revenue for service delivery.
The Council is further advising outdoor advertising companies to engage City Planning department before placing any billboard around the city. It is important for all Outdoor advertising companies to understand that placement and renewal of billboard sites is controlled under the Urban and Regional Planning Act No.3 of 2015. Therefore in order to bring sanity in the outdoor advertising the Council will revoke advertising rights for all defaulters and the sites will be allocated to new agents.
Further the Council would like to inform all outdoor advertising companies that the Department of Legal Service will only sign contracts for 2017 with Agents that have settled their outstanding bills and have been cleared by City Planning and Finance departments.
