Senior Chieftainess Nkomensha calls for integrated development in Lusaka Province

Her Royal Highness Senior Chieftainess Nkomesha Mukamambo II has implored all the districts in Lusaka Province to collaborate in fostering development in the province. Her Royal Highness was speaking when His Worship the Mayor of Lusaka Mr Wilson Kalumba, the Deputy Mayor Ms Chilando Chitangala and the Town Clerk Mr Alex Mwansa paid a courtesy call Her at the office in Chongwe. The Chieftainess said Lusaka province had a lot of potential in various sectors however in order to harness development there was need for the districts to work together. Her Royal Highness observed that the City of Lusaka was exponentially growing at a faster rate which has also increased the demand for service delivery on the part of Council. “Your Worship the Mayor and Deputy you are presiding over the biggest city in the country, Lusaka is seat of government, historical buildings and many more international organisations therefore you need to work to ensure that the city is better,” she said. The Chieftainess said she was ready to participate in any form of developmental plans in the province as she presided over five districts in Her Chiefdom. She further indicated that she was ready to be sworn in by Lusaka City Council to be sitting in Council meetings where she can participate in developmental programmes as well formulation of policies. “In the previous constitution I used to have representatives in your council but under the new constitution it is required that I sit in the council meetings myself. I am more than willing to do that and I wish to request that whenever you are ready invite me so that I can be sworn in as per requirement of the law before I can take my sit in Full Council meetings,” she said. Her Royal Highness also took time to congratulate Lusaka City Council for having a gender balanced leadership and urged the Deputy Mayor Ms Chitangala to support the works of the Mayor and of the government in the City.

Meanwhile, His Worship the Mayor Mr Wilson Kalumba thanked Her Royal Highness Senior Chieftainess Nkomesha Mukamambo II for welcoming him and his delegation at the Her office. The Mayor said the visit to the was more of an introduction and also to affirm that Lusaka City was committed to work with its neighbouring districts in Lusaka province. Mayor Kalumba reiterated the call to work as a team with the tradition leadership in fostering developing in the province. “Your Royal Highness our visit is merely to introduce ourselves and to re-affirm our commitment to work with you where need arises,” he said. The Mayor further indicated that the City of Lusaka was receiving a fair share of development and that it was only prudent and proper that development was shared equally and that this could only be done if there was collaborated development and consultation in the province. “Your Royal Highness as Lusaka City we will remain open to work with you and the neighbouring districts and we look forward to putting our heads together in finding solutions to major challenges the province is facing,” he said. Senior Chieftainess Nkomensha Mukamambo II’s Chiefdom covers five districts namely, Lusaka, Chongwe, Chilanga, Kafue and Shibuyunji.
