On behalf of the residents of the Greater City of Lusaka and indeed on my own behalf I wish to welcome all the delegates, football teams from various nations, the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Dr. Issa Hayatou and your entourage to the under 20 Africa Cup of Nations. As Mayor of the City I am excited to host this memorable tournament and I wish to extend my sincere gratitude to CAF for considering the City of Lusaka among other competing cities in Africa. Therefore I wish to assure the visiting African teams that includes Egypt, Mali, Guinea, South Africa, Sudan, Cameroon and Senegal of a hospitable stay in Zambia particularly in Lusaka.
It is my strong belief that the hosting of the AFCON tournament on the Zambian soil will raise not only the profile of our Country but it will also help to market and raise a national brand for our country which will in turn boost the foreign exchange earnings. To those who may wish to travel to Lusaka to watch the AFCON tournament, I want to assure you that the City of Lusaka is more than ready to accommodate you, as a City we offer pleasant accommodation in peaceful environments with competitive prices to suit your pocket. Therefore come one, come all.
Zambia has remained a peaceful Country for over 50 years it is my prayer too that this tournament will remain peaceful and I wish to request all the locals to take care of the visitors; make them be at home, introduce them to the local cuisine and delicacies, make their stay in Zambia memorable. To the spectators let’s go in numbers at the stadium and support the teams regardless of which team is playing.
To our boys the Junior Chipolopolo this is your time, take us to the 2017 FIFA under 20 World Cup finals in South Korea. DO NOT SETTLE FOR GOOD WHEN BETTER IS AVAILABLE we believe in you, we believe you can do it.
To all the nations represented once again welcome, may you enjoy your stay in Zambia particularly in Lusaka.
