Fast Track Court Convicts Residents for Obstruction

The Fast Track Court convicted 3 Lusaka residents for obstructing authorized Public Health Inspectors from discharging their duties contrary to section 114(a) of the Local Government Act Cap 281 of the Laws of Zambia. The trio who appeared before Magistrate Anna Vonvas Holland for obstruction include Macline Zimba, Musonda Mushota and Jeff Phiri. The trio pleaded guilty and they were convicted and fined K24.00 each in default 1 month simple imprisonment. Meanwhile, the Fast Truck Court has further convicted and fined Mbazi Mutima K8000.00 in default 12 months simple imprisonment for trading in liquor without a licence contrary to the Liquor Licensing Act No.20 of 2011.  And two residents namely Cheelo Mweemba and Mary Mutambo have been convicted and fined K1,500.00 each or in default face a maximum of 1 month simple imprisonment for failure to subscribe to the waste management system contrary to the Statutory Instrument No. 100 of 2011.

Meanwhile the council would like to urge resident to cooperate with officers as they conduct their routine inspection duties in the city. It is important to know that Public Health Inspectors are authorized by law to enter and/or inspect any premises in accordance with the Local Government Act Cap 281 of the Laws of Zambia, any obstruction of the authorized officers is an offence, and therefore all residents are urged to observe the law to avoid prosecution.
