LUSAKA CITY COUNCIL ILLUMINATES ROADS WITH SOLAR STREET LIGHTS

May 9, 2025

The Lusaka City Council has taken a significant step towards enhancing road safety and security by installing 231 solar street lights in four constituencies, namely Kabwata, Lusaka Central, Mandevu, and Matero.

The installations of the solar powered lights were done between 2022 and 2024 using the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) at a cost of K8,177,169.00.

This initiative aims to improve visibility on roads, particularly at night, and reduce accidents caused by poor visibility. Additionally, by adopting solar-powered street lights, the council is promoting sustainability and reducing dependence on a traditional electric power supply.

The installation of solar powered lights is part of the council’s broader efforts to enhance urban infrastructure and services, creating a safer environment for road users, pedestrians, and residents while contributing to the city’s development and beautification.

The Lusaka City Council plans to extend this initiative to other constituencies, furthermore enhancing road safety, promoting sustainability, and improving residents’ quality of life.

The local authority is committed to investing in effective and sustainable road infrastructure for the betterment of the city.
