Lusaka Mayor, Her Worship Ms. Chilando Chitangala and Lusaka District Commissioner Ms. Rosa Kayuni Zulu have tipped women to take keen interest in national matters, insisting that the female folk plays a crucial role in actualizing meaningful gender equality and inclusive democracy.
Speaking during a two day intensive training of female political aspirants convened by the Non-governmental Coordinating Council-NGOCC, Ms Chitangala commended NGOCC for creating timely and strategic interventions for enhanced women participation in various leadership roles.
“Women and girls should be supported and given platforms to contribute to the developmental discourse of society at various levels and I believe that as Lusaka City Council-LCC, we are taking this challenge seriously” remarked Ms.Chitangala.
The mayor disclosed that her office and the Lusaka City Council-LCC working with various partners are implementing the Junior Council Initiative whose core objectives are premised on giving young people information, skills and knowledge around civic matters and the environment.
She stated that the Junior Council platform demonstrates her office’s clear resolve and deliberate effort to include young people in discussions that matter, citing that it is these young people that if well mentored will rise to critical leadership roles in the near future.
And Lusaka District Commissioner, Ms.Rosa Zulu has hailed NGOCC for incorporating sustainable development goals-SDG 5, 4 and 10 all of whom serve as a reminder for women empowerment, gender equality, quality education and reducing inequality.
The DC has since encouraged women to take advantage of the enhanced Constituency Development Fund-CDF skills and Boarding Secondary Schools bursaries component to empower themselves and their communities.
