Mulungushi International Conference Centre

This Hall was built in record time of four (4) months to be the venue for the third Summit Conference of Non-Aligned Nations in September 1970.

The University Of Zambia

This is Zambia first University, which opened in 1966. This is one of Zambia’s tertiary learning Institutions. It is complemented by the Copper belt University in Kitwe. Of course, there are numerous other Colleges offering advanced training, e.g. Evelyn Hone College, National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA), Zambia Institute of Certified Accountants(ZICAS) and others.

National Assembly Building

This is built on Manda Hill adjacent to Mulungushi International Conference Centre. This complex houses the Country Parliament, which opened in 1967. Because of its location on a Hill top of Manda Hill, it is famously refereed to as Manda Hill.

Lusaka Show Grounds

This lies in close proximity to the Parliament Building and is a venue for the Annual Zambia Agriculture and Commercial Show staged every August by the Zambia Agriculture Show Society which manages and organises the yearly event. Lusaka City Council holds 140 shares in the Lusaka Agriculture show Society.

Commercial Area

The main commercial area is centrally located in the Central Business District and stretches 1.6 Km from north to south. This thoroughfare has been transformed over the years and is today flanked by modern multi-storey buildings housing Commercial Banks, Offices, Departmental Stores and attractive squares.

Lusaka Hotel,the Zambia Railway Station and Main Post Office are located here. Other business/commercial Centres are found in Northmead, Longacres, Kabulonga, Kamwala and Woodlands Shopping Complexes.

Government Buildings and Embassies/Diplomatic Missions & Hotels

These are mostly located about 4.6 Km from the Central Business District eastwards. The area also accommodates embassies , the Government House, Freedom Statue, Lusaka Museum, Mosques, Civic Centre, Anglican Cathedral of the Holy Cross, Anglo-American Corporation building, the Supreme and High Courts. The Hotel Intercontinental, Taj Pamodzi Hotel and Holiday Innare all situated in the same vicinity.

Sports Facilities

The main Sports complexes are located in the Long acres area where various sports activities take place. Lusaka City Council Olympic Swimming Pool is located here, as well as the Zambia National Sports Development Centre. Those with a knack for sports activities can visit this location.

The major football stadia are: –

  • New and Old renovated Independence Stadium just below the Humanism Hill about 4.8 Km north of the City
  • Woodlands Stadium home of the City of Lusaka Football Club
  • Nationalist Stadium of Lusaka City Council Football Club
  • Matero Stadium home of the Lusaka Tigers
  • Edwin Imboela Stadium home of the Zambia Police outfit high flying Nkwazi Football Club

Other football fields are situated within the Long acres Sports complex.

Nkoloma Stadium in Chelston east of the town is currently under rehabilitation by the Zambia Air force sponsored team Red Arrows
