The Government has officially commissioned the Chaisa Skills Centre, a facility designed to equip residents, especially youths with practical life skills.
Lusaka Mayor Chilando Chitangala officiated the handover ceremony on behalf of the Lusaka Provincial Minister, Hon. Sheal Mulyata.
Ms. Chitangala described the Skills Centre as “a hub of hope and empowerment” for the community, calling on residents to embrace the facility as a model for grassroots transformation.
The Mayor emphasised that the centre will serve not just as a learning space but as a symbol of what collective effort, community vision, coupled with government support can achieve.
Mandevu Member of Parliament, Hon. Christopher Shakafuswa, praised the government for significantly increasing CDF allocation, stating that tangible results like the new skills centre demonstrate the fund’s potential to transform lives.
Hon. Shakafuswa noted that the centre is testament to the effectiveness of the CDF, adding that a productive nation is built on initiatives like the Chaisa Skills project that empower people to develop themselves.
Chaisa Ward 23 Councillor, Ruth Phiri, echoed the MP’s sentiments, emphasizing that the facility will be utilized to equip residents with practical skills to earn a living.
And Lusaka Town Clerk, Eng. Liftery Ndaba, reaffirmed the council’s commitment to ensuring that residents benefit directly from such community-driven initiatives.
He stated that the Centre is expected to enroll over 300 students as it becomes fully operational and that the local authority will continue to monitor and support its growth.
The Centre, established under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), is fully equipped with training equipment to facilitate hands-on learning.
