Lusaka District Commissioner Rosa Zulu says the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) presents a transformative opportunity for communities like Kanyama -long associated with challenges such as early marriages, unemployment, and school dropouts ,to rewrite their narrative.

In a speech read on her behalf at the handover of the 2025 CDF empowerment grants in Kanyama Constituency by Lusaka District Cooperative and Entrepreneurship Development Officer Matepa Banda, Ms. Zulu said there is need for effective grant utilization to drive development and create economic opportunities.

“The potential here is enormous. The grants you have received should be put to good use. Our children can now dream big and aspire for great things, thanks to initiatives like free education, secondary and skills bursaries, and expanded opportunities for both women and men under the increased CDF. Let us change the story here,” said Ms. Zulu.

She further underscored the importance of CDF’s effective management. She said CDF is a key driver in achieving inclusive and people-centered development. Ms. Zulu also expressed gratitude to President Hakainde Hichilema for his commitment to increasing the CDF, describing it as a crucial step toward improving the livelihoods of marginalized groups, particularly women and youth.

At the same event, Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula Ward Councillor Aaron Mwanza supported calls for the delimitation of large constituencies to facilitate more effective project implementation and equitable resource distribution.

Mr. Mwanza noted that while Kanyama has a strong desire for socio-economic growth, its large population limits the reach of developmental initiatives such as CDF and Cash4Work compared to smaller constituencies.

In a vote of thanks, 2025 CDF grant recipient Frezzar Mutukula from Garden Park Ward 10 praised Kanyama’s civic leadership for actively engaging residents on the benefits of CDF.

Mr. Mutukula encouraged the community to take an active interest in governance and development matters, both locally and nationally. He also urged past and present beneficiaries to share their success stories to inspire more community members to seize the opportunity.

This year, a total of K2,490,857.00 has been disbursed to 152 cooperatives in Kanyama Constituency.

Other speakers at the ceremony included Kanyama Ward 13 Councillor Leonard Cheelo and Kanyama CDF Committee Chairperson Magdalene Chilombo
