LUSAKA, NANCHANG CEMENT RELATIONS AS MAYOR CALLS FOR PARTNERSHIPS IN KEY AREAS

Lusaka Mayor Chilando Chitangala has described the relationship between Lusaka and the Chinese city of Nanchang as mutually beneficial and instrumental in cementing bilateral ties between the People’s Republic of China and Zambia.

Speaking during a meeting with a delegation from Nanchang, led by Vice Mayor An Baojun, Ms. Chitangala highlighted the over 60-year friendship between Zambia and China as a foundation for impactful collaborations between the two cities.

She cited the 1.1-kilometre Zambia–China Friendship Road in Munali Constituency currently undergoing upgrade and rehabilitation funded by the Zambia Chinese Association as one of the notable gestures of development support from the Chinese community.

While acknowledging strides made by the council in improving Lusaka’s infrastructure through streetlight installations, the mayor noted that several areas still lack this essential safety feature.

She called on the Zambia Chinese Association to consider partnering with the local authority in a full-scale rollout of streetlights across the city.

Ms. Chitangala also used the platform to outline the council’s efforts in upscaling and rolling out early education childhood development-ECD, adding that the five centres owned by the local authority are not enough to cater for the growing population and the children who need these facilities for enhanced cognitive development.

“ECD centres are critical in helping champion the health of positive development of our children , the few centres that we have need lack primary essential such as books , nutrional value foods and toys and our public parks need to be revamped , I therefore make an appeal on behalf of the children of our city for possible partnerships in this area” Remarked Ms.Chitangala.

Having witnessed the extensive development and innovation in Nanchang firsthand, Ms. Chitangala also urged Vice Mayor Baojun and the visiting delegation to explore the possibility of student exchange visits between the two cities.

And Nanchang Vice Mayor An Baojun said that the removal of trade tariffs for all African countries and the increase in trade between Zambia and China symbolises the cordial relationship between Zambia and China.

Mr. Baojun, who proposed undertaking a comprehensive survey to explore potential investment opportunities, disclosed that over thirty-30 companies from Nanchang city will be exhibiting at the 97th Zambia agricultural and commercial show.

The Nanchang Vice Mayor expressed optimism that the twin partnership between Lusaka and Nanchang will yield developmental benefits for both cities.

He has since thanked the Mayor of Lusaka for her admirable and inclusive leadership style.
